"The Saddest Song"

I believe that The Ataris are one of my favorite bands of all time if not my favorite. Not only do I like their style of music which is Pop Punk but I love their lyrics. No matter what the song is about it always seems to "hit home". The lyrics to the song believe are about the lead singer Kris Roe and his daughter. The "just" of the song is that he hasn't been there for his daughter growing up and it kills him for being there. I believe the sound tempo of the song is appropriate for the lyrics being sung and in my opinion can even resemble a lullaby sung to a baby or kid (despite the rock content).
The first paragraph of the song is about Kris Roe singing that there's only two days left until his daughter's birthday and yesterday was his. He always goes onto say that he knows that it's like to grow up without a father in your life so he pretends that unlike his father he's doing all that he can and hope that someday when she grows up she can understand why he's not in her life. Even though some might agree that there's no excuse for not being in your child's life but I believe that Kris' situation is somewhat justifiable unlike my situation with my father. I don't know Kris Roe or his situation but I do know that he's a musician and being a famous musician is hard on a family. I believe the reason this song hits home is I feel like I can somehow relate to the child being sung about in the song. And even though I was older than 5 years old when my dad "left" it wasn't until later on that I understood why and I was able to forgive him.
"The Saddest Song"
The Ataris
Only two more days, until your birthday
Yesterday was mine
You'll be turning five
I know what it's like, growing up without your father in your life
So I pretend, I'm doing all I can
And I hope someday you'll find it in your heart
To understand
Why I'm not around
And forgive me for not being in your life
I remember waiting
For you to come
Remember waiting
For you to call
Remember waiting there to find nothing at all
I remember waiting
For you to come
Remember waiting
For you to call
Waiting there to find nothing at all
Maybe someday
You really get to know me
Not just by letters read to you
I pray I get the chance
To make it up to you
We got a lot of catching up to do
To understand
Why I'm not around
And forgive me for not being in your life
I remember waiting
For you to come
Remember waiting
For you to call
Remember waiting there to find nothing at all
I remember waiting
For you to come
Remember waiting
For you to call
Waiting there to find nothing at all
Forgive me!
I'm so sorry!
I will make it up to you...
